Far Out: Exploring the Mind with Science Fiction and Poetry”

At the points where language intersects with the boundaries of comprehension exist two forms of storytelling well suited to exploration - science fiction & poetry. Poetry pushes the capabilities of words themselves, while science fiction reaches for the strangest ideas of our imaginations. Hear more about these two forms linked within this frame of reference by someone who writes both.

Workshop Time! By Eva L. Elasigue

“Letting One Art Feed Another”

Keeping one form of creative expression going can be difficult at times. When we think about what inspires and motivates us to create, that can include our favorite media from other sources. We can also count other things we do, and the regularity of their occurrence, as reminders toward continuing our favorite forms of self-realization. This in discussion with someone process-pairing a novel trilogy with an unrelated art series being created live at this event.

bio:
Eva L. Elasigue combines a far-reaching and honor-awarded imagination with scientific & empirical backgrounds to create the mythic intergalactic space opera Bones of Starlight, as well as works from poetic to humorous for internet and stage. She lives with her dog Spirit in the island town of Friday Harbor, WA, currently continuing her debut series and managing Primal Spiral, an imprint-events collective-studio. A mixed media artist and renaissance woman, she loves music and the wilderness.

BADASS ART By Liz Weickum

Liz Weickum is a Visual Artist freelance Graphic Designer from the Pacific Northwest, currently residing in Seattle, WA. Her art has been displayed in galleries, festivals, and shows in Washington State, California, Nevada, and Montana as well as through live painting and vending. Her style is best described as minimal, color rich, urban pop-surrealism with emotional undertones. Her artwork is heavily influenced by her love of music, her life experiences, and a desire to create the things she wished existed. The inspiration behind a large majority of her work is inspired by song titles and lyrics she connects with and often times she creates a visual interpretation through her artwork to represent the feelings they evoke in her. Her biggest style influences come from street art, anime, and surrealism. Her main artistic mediums are traditional and digital illustration and painting. She aspires to inspire and empower others through art.
