You slip out of your mother’s lips into the cold air, wet and trembling, wailing, gasping, oblivious to the holy forces that would plan to punish you for these gay little breaths. The world turns its shoulder day after day, and day after day you breathe. One day you grow teeth. You grow taste. You move your mouth to decide what is sweet, stale, or rotten for yourself, and to form words which carry your reality into space. Years of this.

Now look at you, your jewelry. Your language nonverbal. Self-actualization in motion, sweaty and certain, hips hypnotizing, thermodynamic thong. You go to the club to move, to articulate yourself — that is, to become ever more clearly. You make use of the tool bass which compels articulation, which your body obeys organically, because it is a body. You exist, you become. You strengthen and trade this language purposefully, trusting others with your expressions and perceptions, holding theirs. You know that you are but one cell, and together your breaths are current. You found this body with yours. You know what love is. You know how to move.

I turn away from the mirror, and I am so proud of myself.

This Month brings DJ Shannon, a staple in NY, noted for her layering and phrasing, dizzying handwork, and big-time blends of hard-hitting club, classic and ghetto house, techno, global bass, breakbeat, hip-hop, and anything fiery and fun.

She’s slayed the CDJs in revered New York venues including Nowadays, Elsewhere, House of Yes, and Good Room. Outside of the club, Shannon graces the airwaves of the Lot Radio and Radio Bonita. And she’s the sunny host of her own podcast Club Management, which explores music’s ability to bridge communities around the world through thoughtful interviews with such guests as TRAXMAN, UNIIQU3, Bohan Phoenix, Ikonika, and Dance Mania founder Ray Barney.

STS PRESENTS: TAROT AGAINST TUMORS

Join us on 3/12 for a very anti-tumor charity rave! 

This event is transpiring for a dear friend of the STS, Diana Watson (She/They). Diana is a regular at not only STS events, but is usually present at many wonderful parties around town. If you've had the chance to talk to her, you'll know that she's a quirky transplant from Florida with a heart of gold. Whatever conversations you may have had with her, they're always joyful and add a crucial piece to the community aspect of our scene. Suffice to say, the smokers lounge at Kremwerk wouldn't feel the same without her; and don't get us started on the dancefloor!

Back in December, Diana revealed to us that she was diagnosed with an extremely large tumor on her ovary, and while she was incredibly lucky to catch it early and have it removed, she would still need several months to recover from the surgery. This keeps Diana out of work and in financial instability for a terrifying amount of time.

That's where WE come in! We here at the STS are EXTREMELY ANTI-TUMOR and will be backing Diana during this crucial & terrifying period in their life! Join us on 3/12 to DANCE THE TUMORS AWAY!!! Music, raffles, tarot, all for a charitable cause! All ticket & raffle profits the STS receives will be going towards Diana's recovery fund, as well as a considerable amount from the tarot booth. Join our stand against tumors on this fine Thursday as we dance the troubles away!
